Learning is certainly not a one-size-fits-all experience. And yet, when we take courses that are recognized all over the world such as CELTA, some people thrive and some people struggle and yet many others sail through without strong feelings one way or the other.Ā However, with a standardized approach, the courses can't always meet the needs of each individual - we are all unique and have our unique needs after all. This got me thinking...
Let me back up a little, thought and tell you the summed up version of my story. It would be something like this - I am capable of learning and achieving my goals as well as the next person - it's just that sometimes I benefitted from taking a little more time or getting a little more help than what the cookie-cutter model offered. The problem was, that help was often hard to find or simply out of reach for me.
This is a big reason why I created Integrated Skills. Starting out as a simple YouTube Channel in 2013 to help people with some core topics on the CELTA course it soon became clear to me that there were many people out there who were just like me. People who would have benefitted from being able to take the timeĀ their goals need and getting the right support along the way can make all the difference in how you end up feeling about your choice to invest in becoming an educator and potentially even starting your own business.
The nameĀ Integrated Skills is actually an approach to teaching language. The idea being that providing students with more realistic encounters with language, where they would employ more than one of the language skills, namely, reading, listening, speaking and writing. It was this focus on the interconnectedness of our skills and abilities that spoke to me. In turn, this has become the core to how we help people at Integrated Skills. No one-size-fits-all approaches, you and your abilities are unique and Integrated Skills is here to help.
